POSITIVE HACK DAYS

PHDays Everywhere

PHDays Everywhere:
Join In from Wherever You Are

Can’t make it to PHDays IV in person? Don’t worry, you and your friends can be anywhere with PHDays Everywhere:

  • Tune into our online broadcast of the event in full HD
  • Take part in open discussions
  • Ask questions to the speakers
  • Demonstrate your skills at both hacking and protecting information during competitions (remember, winners get prizes!)

This page will list hacker locations that will be equipped for video conferencing so anyone can take part in the event, hang out with other security enthusiasts and actively hack or protect information.

Set Up Your Own Venue

If your town or favorite place isn’t on the list, you can easily set up your own PHDays Everywhere venue. Here’s what you need:

  • A place open to visitors on May 21 and 22, 2014, during PHDays IV event hours (there’s a place in your city where hackers hang out, right?)
  • Internet connectivity with at least 1 Mb/sec (or faster) for each of the six broadcasting video streams (this also lets your guests interact with visitors and take part in live competitions)
  • At least one projector or monitor

Video cameras are not required, but they are welcome. Having one or more cameras in place will make your interaction with the main venue more enjoyable.

In return for organizing a PHDays Everywhere venue, we promise to publish information about all participating parties (names, descriptions, logos, links and other contact information) on the PHDays website. Contact us at phd@phdays.com.

A Bit of History

In 2012, the geographic reach of PHDays expanded significantly as dozens of ethical hacking communities joined PHDays online from various corners of the world.

In 2013, more people joined PHDays by organizing their own venues in Abu Dhabi (UAE), Birzeit (Palestine), Cairo (Egypt), Kollam (India), Tunis (Tunisia), Kiev (Ukraine), as well as the Russian cities of Vladivostok, Voronezh, Kaliningrad, Krasnodar, Novosibirsk, Omsk, St. Petersburg, Saratov and Ufa.

Each of the 17 remote hackspaces turned into a serious regional event, uniting as many as 80 local information security enthusiasts in a venue. The Moscow-based event connected to PHDays Everywhere venues through a special live transmission and teleconferences were held with Cairo, Tunis, Kiev, Vladivostok, Novosibirsk and Omsk.

Participants were able to watch the event’s activities online and communicate with the event hosts in Moscow, but that was just the beginning. They could also try their skills in CTF contests, present their research, carry out their own competitions and hands-on labs, and compete during the PHDays Everywhere Sprint contest.

For instance, 12 teams took part in DvCTF which was held in Vladivostok, Russia. In addition to 2,000 attendees in Moscow, thousands of Internet users had the opportunity to participate in fascinating competitions. Sixty participants from different countries registered to take part in NskCTF (Novosibirsk) alone.

The cooperative spirit that makes PHDays unique is reflected in the way PHDays Everywhere has evolved to unite security enthusiasts from around the world.
